The Singapore Branch held its 7th AGM on 24 April 2017.

At the AGM itself, Francis Xavier who presided as Chairman took the meeting through a Directors’ Report which set out details of membership, events, courses and activities of the Branch from September 2016 to March 2017.

Membership has increased over 8% from 382 to 415 from end of August 2016 to March 2017. Fellow grade membership is at 45%, which is the biggest cohort in the Branch membership.

Several events were held in 2016 and these included the talk by David Bailey QC on “Promises to Arbitrate and their Enforcement”, the SIAC-CIArb Debate, talk by Michael Lee on “Managing the Uncooperative Party”, and talk by Ben Giaretta on “Project Management in International Arbitration”.

Various courses were conducted between August 2016 and April 2017. These included Module 3, Module 4, Module 2, Introduction to International Arbitration and the recent Accelerated Route to Membership (ARM) course held on 12-13 April 2017. The Introduction to International Arbitration course was also conducted for a group of delegates from the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre on 19-20 January 2017.

Consequent to the 7th AGM, an election for the office-bearers in the Board for the new term was held. The outgoing chairman, Francis Xavier proposed Chou Sean Yu to be the new Chairman. The meeting unanimously accepted Chou Sean Yu as the new Chairman for the CIArb Singapore Branch.

Paul Sandosham was nominated as Vice-Chairman of the Branch while Jonathan Choo and Richard Hayler agreed to continue to serve in their respective positions as Honorary Secretary and Treasurer. The meeting unanimously approved the nominations with Richard Tan as the proposer and Rengarajoo B, the seconder.

The Singapore Branch currently has 16 Directors.
